About Breast Reduction Surgery

Breast reduction is the procedure to remove excess fat, tissue and skin from the breast. Women with large breasts choose breast reduction surgery to ease discomfort and to have a breast size more suitable to their body.  Having a breast reduction surgery also solves the issues such as

Breast Reduction Procedure

Breast reduction is done using general anesthesia so the patient is put to sleep not to feel any pain. The surgery lasts from 2-5 hours sometimes can take longer depending on the case. Patients can have the surgery on an outpatient basis but generally will have to stay for a couple of days depending on recovering speed. The surgeon will firstly start the surgery by making a cut around the nipple area and then downwards on the breast, like a keyhole. Then the excess skin tissue and fat from the breasts will be removed and the nipple will be repositioned. Finally, the surgeon may use drainage tubes, stitch the breast and wrap special gauze around it. If surgeon advises, then the patient will need to wear a surgical bra.

Suitable Patients for Breast Reduction

Breast reduction surgery is available for all ages even for teenagers- although it’s best to wait for breasts to be fully developed. Breast feeding is a big concern for women but in some cases it is possible to breast feed after breast reduction surgery. Men with conditions like Asgynecomastia (breasts are abnormally big) can also get breast reduction surgery.

Before Breast Reduction surgery

• Patients must completely quit smoking from at least 3months before the surgery

• Patients must stop taking any medications and herbal supplements

After Breast Reduction surgery

• Physical activity should be minimized for at least a month after surgery

• Patients may need 2 weeks of school or work to rest

It’s normal to feel pain in breasts after the surgery. In the first few days take medication prescribed by the surgeon correctly. If there is any sign of infection including fever or stuff coming out from the incisions, make sure to contact the surgeon as soon as possible.

First day of Breast Reduction Surgery

The patients will attend a consultation with the surgeon and will be advised about the procedure and their condition. The patient will then be taken through a couple of tests that are required before the surgery. If desired, patients can spend the day to rest and attend the hospital the next day.

Second day of Breast Reduction Surgery

Breast reduction surgery will be performed. The surgery will be performed using general anesthesia. The surgery will take between 2 to 5 hours perform depending on the extent of surgery. Once the surgery is over, the patient will be taken to a private room where they will be staying when in hospital for resting. The patient will stay at hospital the night after the surgery.

Third day of Breast Reduction Surgery

The surgeon will perform a check up and if they are approved to be in a good, healthy condition and the surgery results are all successful; the patients are advised with post treatment care requirements and are ready to be discharged from hospital to their settlements. Patients can go on little tours around the city and enjoy their free time in Turkey.

Fourth day of Breast Reduction Surgery

Patients will attend a post surgery for a final check up and consultation. The stitches and drainage tubes will be removed. The patient will be advised on further medication. If everything is right then the patient is ready to return to their destination.
