About Laser Vein Treatment

Varicose and Spider veins occur in both men and women at any age. They are generally caused by

  • Pregnancy

Less common causes of varicose veins are

  • Phlebitis
  • Blood clots or obstruction to the blood flow
  • Congenital abnormalities of the veins

There are various ways to treat Varicose and Spider veins

Endovenous laser treatment – the treatment is done to close off a large varicose vein instead of undergoing a treatment for the removal.

Simple laser treatment – the treatment is done for small spider veins and tiny varicose veins. This can be performed as a second treatment after varicose treatments like endovenous laser or radiofrequency treatment or sclerotherapy.

Laser Vein Treatment Procedure

Endovenous Laser Treatment – the treatment can treat large varicose veins in the legs. The doctor will insert a laser fiber into the vein, which is passed through a catheter. While doing this, the doctor will be monitoring the vein on a duplex ultrasound screen. Local anesthesia or a light sedative may be needed for the treatment.

Simple Laser Treatment – the treatment is done on the outer of the skin. It can treat spider veins and tiny varicose veins under the surface of the skin. In some situations more than one laser session can be needed. The treatment is done with a laser. The doctor will place the laser along the area to be treated. The laser heat will damage a vein and scar tissue will form. Then the scar tissue will close the vein. Once the vein is closed it will loose its source of blood and die out. Within a year the vein will completely disappear. The patient may be given numbing cream or local anesthetic to reduce any discomfort.
